Hey ya’ll, I’m Mummy G and although I’m not yet a mom, I will soon be embarking on the wonderful journey of parenthood. This daily blog is where I’ll be mentally thought-vomiting my experiences as I go through pregnancy and parenthood. It’s also my place of sanity and groundedness.
I’m a Naturopathic doctor, author, traveler, writer, un-professional athlete, intramural chef, and mommy-in-training. My husband and I recently got married (July 10th, 2016) and we are ready to leap into parenthood.
I have to say, I’m scared yet so excited!
I have many friends who are new parents and I know how much unacknowledged effort and sleepless nights goes into raising kids, however, since I was a little girl, there was nothing else that I’ve wanted to be.
This blog is for me as much as it is for you.
I want to be a conscious parent. And although I’m a Naturopathic doctor, I’m not your typical anti-vaccine, anti-fun, only organic and self-grown produce practitioner.
I actually believe in moderation and that extreme practices is not only potentially harmful for the body, but the mind. When we dive into extreme ways of living we start to exclude people and theories of our choosing, therefore creating a narrowed perspective of reality.
What is reported in the news, in journals and on TV is not the full story. Nor are our experiences. What works for you and your children may not be suited for another parent.
- not vaccinating can lead to life-threatening illnesses and potential epidemics
- excessive vaccinations can negatively effect the immune system
- too much sanitation and sterilization can lead to increase allergic reactions and auto-immunity
- veganism can lead to malnutrition (protein, iron, B vitamins)
- c-sections can decrease natural protective bacteria flora colonization
- circumcisions are now considered cosmetic surgery versus expected
There are so many questions that parents have and a lot of noise. Let’s talk about it all, and not be fearful to ask questions. We are all continuously learning and guess what I GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL MAKE MISTAKES. Lots of them!
But mistakes aren’t bad. I could even go as far as to say the “negative” ways in which your parents raised you have been paramount in creating the “positive” aspects in your life now. Every major event, challenge or difficulty you’ve been able to overcome has become an opportunity for you to grow and get stronger.
So stop being afraid to make a mistake.
It’s time to stop judging and criticizing other parents. We are all doing the best we can with the limited about of information that we have. I welcome it all to this blog as long as it is shared with respect and genuine helpfulness.
So here’s to parenthood and all the craziness that goes along with it.
I hope my daily blogging with keep me sane and authentic as I try to be the best role model for my children.
