Naturopaths for Integrative Geriatric Care

Naturopaths for Integrative Geriatric Care (NIGC) is a student initiative founded by Naturopathic students from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). This project was designed to support the Geriatric health care system by integrating Naturopathic medicine into Geriatric institutions. As a result, the Geriatric population, Geriatric institutions and Naturopathic profession benefit:

  • Geriatric population– Individualized, preventative and holistic health care encourages optimal healing and self-empowerment.
  • Geriatric institutions– Preventative medicine has been shown to decrease long term costs for severe illnesses and drug prescriptions.
  • Naturopathic profession– Creating job opportunities to help support the over-burdened Geriatric health care system.

The Integrative Geriatric Satellite Project

Students at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) enter Clinical internship in the 4th year of their Naturopathic doctorate program where they support patients with individualized and holistic care under supervision of a licensed Naturopathic doctor. The Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic (RSNC) is the primary facility where patients see Naturopathic Interns. There are also Satellite Clinics outside of the RSNC which are available to specific communities free of charge.

The Integrative Geriatric Satellite Project hopes to provide health care to Geriatric patients who are unable to access Naturopathic medicine due to physical or financial limitations. In return, Naturopathic students obtain valuable knowledge while treating the elderly population and learning about integrative medicine while working with a team of Medical doctors and other health practitioners.

CCNM will be choosing one Geriatric institution to implement the Integrative Geriatric Satellite Project. For more information on the application process please email NDgeriatrics@gmail.com.
